The first solo exhibition of visual artist Aristo Vopĕnka was to take place in a Brussels art gallery, displaying various works in the presence of the artist in the spring of 2021. However, due to COVID-19, we are unable to organize the event in its desired form.
Taking the exhibition online, with telepresence of Vopĕnka, would be a downgrade. We believe digital art must be experienced in the conditions intended by the artist. This includes a specific room setup, high quality image and audio. We cannot yet ‘recreate’ this experience outside the gallery, into your home, because of its high technical requirements. On a longer term, we are working on bringing digital art to your living room as part of the 'DURVYN domestic art experience'. This is a research and development project that will take its time.
However, we want this public display moment to take place now at a time when, more than ever, art can bring new hope and perspectives. Given the circumstances, we are going to do something that hasn’t been done yet: sharing the creation of digital art in real time with the viewer. During 24h we will be showing live snapshots and videos during the making of a new work.
Art Supercomputer 2.0 is an online event that gives the audience insight into the studio of the digital artist. Not the final work but its 'making of' is shown. This requires innovative infrastructure. The usual creation process does not provide real-time results that are presentable to the audience, due to the heavy source files. Making the creation process accessible is not a mere IT operation but requires the hand of the artist. We named our innovation Art Supercomputer 2.0 or 'Maggie' for short.
Maggie pushes boundaries.
She is the digital art studio of the 21st century.
The Art Supercomputer 2.0 renders Aristo Vopĕnka's work in real time and shares these snapshots with the viewer. Logging into the Art Supercomputer 2.0 (via a link on our website) gives you direct access to the creation process as if you were standing next to the artist. Maggie pushes boundaries. She is the digital art studio of the 21st century.
As a spectator you will get a unique insight into the creation of a new work of art. The first montage to the final edit will be shown, except for the end result, that we want to show post-covid in the originally intended setting in a gallery in Brussels. Practical info on that will hopefully follow soon. In the meantime, we welcome you to log on to a unique moment of creation on March 18, 2021. You will find the link to the event below on the day itself.
About the artist:
Aristo Vopĕnka is a visual artist, originally from the Netherlands and based in Brussels since 2013. Vopĕnka was educated as a filmmaker (Master of Arts) at LUCA School of Arts. In his recent work, he explores the boundaries between photography, illustration, painting and printmaking. Through his experimental attitude towards these different media, whole new forms of expression take place. These are the principles of the development of a reinterpretation of expressionism that he has called experiential expressionism.
DURVYN focuses on the integration of technology into our lives, moving on the intersection between art, architecture, construction and lifestyle. Current projects include Intuitive Living, the home of the future, domestic art experience, art integration and experience at home, and the Art Supercomputer 2.0, which makes the making of digital art publicly accessible.
